Without three of their regular back four, an inexperienced Motors side slid to a fourth successive defeat on a heavy Northolme pitch, after a fairly even and goalless first half.

After a very scrappy start to proceedings, Motors keeper Lloyd Rigby tipped over a well driven free kick from Trinity’s Lewis McMahon, before the visitors were twice opened up by the trickery of Paul Taylor with excellent crossfield passes, both openings ended up with right-sided Tom Field being denied at the near post.

The deadlocked was broken just two minutes after the restart, when Richard Pell headed a corner back across goal where Alex Rodman was able to apply the telling touch despite the efforts of Russell Hitchen on the line, the goal being awarded on the assistant’s call.

Three minutes later, Trinity doubled their advantage when Rodman was released into space with a perfect pass through the inside right channel before drilling his right-foot shot beyond Rigby.

Shortly after midfielder Keith Smith brought the very best out of home keeper Adam Sollitt from 20 yards out after a storming run through the middle, but within minutes any notion of a comeback disappeared when Jonathan Egerton was shown a straight red card for a reckless challenge in the middle of the field.

Trinity wrapped up the three points eleven minutes from time, when McMahon scored a fine diving header from a right wing cross, to leave Motors still seeking their first points of 2008.
