TROPHY 3rd QUALIFYING ROUND The Andy Mutch revolution at Rivacre Park is definitely gathering momentum, as this latest superb victory over high-flying Hyde United demonstrates. Improving Vauxhall Motors upset the form book to oust the in-form Tigers from the F. A. Trophy, thanks to a solitary goal early in the second half from Peter Heler and richly deserved it was too!. The Motormen were much the better side in the opening half and really should have been firmly in the driving seat, before their 50th minute winner. Playing some neat football, Vauxhall rocked the Tigers back on their heels from the start. Heler and Anthony Wright went close, before the later struck the near upright having been released by Paul Taylor. Former Motors defender Craig Robinson went closest for the visitors when his header was tipped over by Andrew Murphy. Dootson again distinguished himself from Wright, before Hyde made a half decent fist of it and indeed almost equalised via the head of Gareth Seddon from Nicky Clee’s cross, but Motors held firm, in which fit-again Joe McMahon and former Tranmere star Ged Brannan were outstanding in the heart of the defence. Taylor almost added to their earlier strike in injury time, as he rounded the keeper but his effort slid agonizingly wide, before the final whistle confirmed their passage into the next round. Vauxhall: Murphy, Owens, Dames, Field, McMahon, Brannan, Heler, Griffiths, Wright (Clarke 72), Marsh-Evans, Taylor. Sub not used: Smith, Wignall, Macauley. |
