UNIBOND SENIOR CUP QUARTER FINAL A superb hat-trick from top scorer Paul Taylor eased Vauxhall through to the semi-finals of the Unibond Cheshire Senior Cup for manager Andy Mutch to register his first victory in charge, this after Celtic had twice pulled back level A much-changed line-up quickly got into their stride and the lively Taylor almost struck very early on, before Celtic wasted a couple of opportunities when well placed to test Andrew Murphy in the Motors goal. Taylor struck the only goal of the first half on 37 minutes when he raced clear in the inside left channel before firing beyond Paddy Gamble in the home goal. But shortly after, Vauxhall’s stand-in skipper Joe McMahon, back after seven weeks injury, cleared off his own line. Ashley Winn brought the sides back on terms seven minutes after the break with a sweet shot into the top right corner of the net, only for Taylor to restore Motors lead almost immediately, after good work by co-striker Mark Reed on the left, gave the marksman a simple job of converting from eight yards out. Winn equalized for the second time on 68 minutes, again with a neat shot after the ball bounced nicely in his favour, but seven minutes from time, Taylor again burst through the Celtic ranks, before rounding the keeper and prodding home the deserved winner. Motors will now travel to Blue Square Premier club Altrincham in the last four in the New Year. Vauxhall: Murphy, Clarke, Dames, Field, McMahon (Hotte 80), Holmes, Roberts (Wright 84), Smith (Garrity 63), Reed, Marsh-Evans, Taylor. Sub not used: Wignall, Griffiths. |
